colours and type
Ragdolls have a soft, semi-longhair coat which does not require extensive grooming. Ragdoll kittens are born white and they acquire their colouring as they age. Some colour starts to show within the first week or two.
They get their final colour by the age of 3 to 4 years. Most Ragdolls are “pointed” cats, meaning deeper colour shows up in standard points on the body (ears, nose/mask, tail and feet).
Ragdolls come in the following colours: Seal, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Cream, Tortie and three different patterns: Point, Mitted and Bicolour.
The Ragdoll-Colours and Patterns
Ragdolls come in different colours:
Blue
The Blue Point Ragdoll has a grey colour and can be a light grey to a deep dark grey. The points should be blue-grey. The chest and stomach should be lighter in colour that the body.
Seal
The Seal Point Ragdoll could be described as dark brown The points are deep seal brown while the body is beige to light brown. The chest and stomach are lighter in colour that the body.
Chocolate
The Chocolate Point Ragdoll is light brown/milk chocolate and the body should be ivory. The mask on the face is often not fully developed. The chest and stomach should be lighter in colour than the body. The paw pads and nose leather should be cinnamon.
Lilac
The Lilac Point Ragdoll could be described as very light grey. The body colour should be milk/glacial white. The points should be lilac grey or have a pinkish tone. Similar to the Chocolate Point, the mask on the face is often not fully developed (compared to a Seal or Blue for example).
Red*
The Red Point Ragdolls are red or orange in colour. They are also known as Flame Point ragdoll. The points should be a deep orange red, the deeper the better. The paw pads and the nose should be leather to hot pink. The reds take a long time to get their full colour.
Cream*
A Cream Point is the “dilute” version of the Red/Flame (the recessive). The face, ears, feet and tail could be any shade of cream from deep cream to a pale cream. The body colour of the Cream Point Ragdoll should be white.
Tortie*
In general the Tortie overlays any of the above patterns. Tortie Points, colour-wise, will generally have Red or Cream mixed (“patches”) with one of the other colours; they can for example be seal/flame or blue/cream. A Torbie Ragdoll is a Tortie Ragdoll with the lynx markings.

Patterns
Colour pointed Ragdoll
Colourpoint Ragdolls have a coloured mask, ears, feet, nose, paws and tail with a lighter shade on the body.
Mitted Ragdolls
Mitted Ragdolls have the same points as colourpoints but their legs have white “mitts” on the front feet (like “socks”) and white boots on the back legs. The chin should be white and there should be a white belly stripe. Mitted kittens could have a blaze (a white spot on the face).
Tabby
Tabby is not really a pattern as it can overlay any of the other patterns. In other words, it is possible to have a lynx point, a lynx mitted or a lynx bicolour Ragdoll. Lynx is basically the tabby striping and looks like the letter “W” on its forehead. The legs should have clearly defined, broken stripes of different sizes. There is also a white “eyeliner” around the eyes.
